Choose a social, print, device, product, or cinema preset only when it matches the destination, position the crop around the real subject, and preview decorative overlays separately from the rectangular source boundary.
A 1:1 square can be 300 by 300 pixels or 2000 by 2000 pixels. Pick the ratio to match the frame, then confirm whether the output has enough pixels for its display or print use. A ratio preset does not guarantee compliance with a platform's file-size, minimum-resolution, or safe-area requirements.
Move the crop so the focal subject remains clear and important edges do not feel accidental. Check logos, captions, horizons, hands, and product boundaries. For responsive website images, leave room around the subject because another layout may apply additional cropping. Use Original when the whole composition must remain visible.
A decorative overlay can mask corners in the output preview. When those corners must remain transparent, choose a format that supports transparency, such as PNG or WebP. JPEG fills transparent regions with a solid background. Inspect the downloaded file in the destination instead of relying only on the on-page mask.
